David Garcia Cabezudo
ExO and GSPE EU Senior TPD Manager - Granollers, Spain
@COTY – 16 Years
David Garcia joined COTY in 1999 as a Quality Assurance Technician. Today, David is the GSPE (Gift Sets Packaging Expert) and TPD (Fragrances and Body Care) Senior Manager for Europe at ExO (the External Operation department). His team works in two main product categories: Aerosols and Gift Sets. The team manages the development of these products and they also lead the technical aspects of larger projects that contribute to the ongoing optimization of COTY’s supply chain.
David is also a member of the newly formed GSPE (Gift Set Packaging Expert) group. This is a global team that reports directly to Jerome Goarnisson, Vice President of Packaging, bringing all the Gift Set Packaging Experts together to ensure the excellence in the development and execution of COTY’s Gift Set category.
Additionally, David is a CSR Ambassador and an avid participant in Leading Bold Change. David recently attended the CSR Positive Impact Lab in Chantilly, France where the CSR Ambassadors shared best practices and explored how COTY uses creativity to make a difference by nurturing its CSR community. David is a firm believer in the sentence “If not me, who?” David continues by explaining: “I do not expect anyone else to do something for me. If I want to change something, I must be the one who fights for achieving the goal. I personally am a little selfish, because [helping] people makes me feel good.”
“Concerning innovation many people make the mistake of associating it to a product, but for me creativity means to challenge what we do every day, not be conformist, think there is always another way to do it and look for the best solution for every moment in every phase of a project, from conception to execution.”
What does creativity mean to you? How do you define it?
Creativity to me means thinking outside the box. Creativity is innate in people but it can be cultivated and trained. Concerning innovation many people make the mistake of associating it to a product, but for me creativity means to challenge what we do every day, not be conformist, think there is always another way to do it and look for the best solution for every moment in every phase of a project, from conception to execution.
What inspires you to be creative?
Having your mind on the challenge to improve every day and be happy with the results.
What aspect of creativity at COTY do you like?
For me, creativity is much more than design. So I consider that COTY is the example of a company that offers you the chance to be creative, contributing to create a better future and make a difference. A clear example of this is the entrepreneurial spirit found in Leading Bold Change.
What COTY fragrance do you wear?
A brand you admire:
Marc Jacobs is always working on innovative solutions to offer the consumers something different.
What was your first job ever?
I was a professional photographer specializing in portraits and product photography. I enjoyed creating and spending hours looking for the best picture. But when digital cameras appeared, everything changed; it became more important to be good at re-touching than taking a good photograph. That frustrated me a lot, so I decided to make a 180-degree change in my life and then I arrived at COTY.
Fill in the blank: Always, Always, Always:
Be positive. The problems do not exist because there are always solutions. I always try to find the positive things in the life.
Fill in the blank: Never, Never, Never:
Regret the decisions taken, but learn from them to become stronger in the future.
My rule of thumb for:
Meetings: Try to make meetings as effective as possible, I have no time to lose. Travel: Learn from each trip so that they do not become routine.
Energy of choice:
I do not need any supplement for energy; it is already in my DNA.
Relax fishing during the night. Well, trying to, because I rarely catch a fish!
Fav (local) restaurant:
l’ou com balla (Born BCN)
Fav vacation spot:
Any lonely island of Greece.
One golden piece of advice:
Tomorrow the sun will rise. We have to learn to take the drama out of the problems. Everything in this life has a solution.
Greatest lesson learned:
Do not waste energy whining over errors. Use it to find a solution.
“Savoir faire” (The art of being savvy)
Early riser or burn the midnight oil (stay up/work late)?
I usually get up very early; I'm much more effective in the mornings.
